The first T20 National Club Championships in Romania held over the weekend of 18th and 19th September 2010 in Bucharest at the Berceni Reserves grounds – the home grounds for the TCC, ended with a convincing win by the Indian Cricket Club of Bucharest (ICCB) who beat Transylvania Cricket Club (TCC) by 105 runs.

Four clubs took part in the tournament - Banat Lions Cricket Club from (BLCC) Timisoara and Bucharest Cricket Club (BCC) from Bucharest were the other two clubs. Two other clubs – Clubul Sportive Studentesc Medicina (CSSM) from Timisoara and Cluj Cricket Club (CCC) from Cluj, unfortunately couldn’t participate as most of their key team members were sitting for exams on or around that the time of the Championships. Our congratulations to ICCB on their win. Scorecards of the five matches that were played in the competition will be posted on this website shortly.

On Friday 25th June 2010, The British Council is holding a “Cultural Centers” evening within British Council library situated in Calea Dorobantilor, nr. 14. Consiliul Roman Cricket (Cricket Romania) is delighted to have been invited to participate in this long running and well-regarded event.

The evening begins at 6pm and runs until 9pm, entry is free and we’d be delighted to see you there.

The 11th of November 2009 marked the official launch of Cricket Romania (Consiliul Roman de Cricket) designed to promote and develop cricket as a sport in Romania.

The purpose of the launch was to introduce cricket to the Romanian public and highlight the unique 'spirit of the game’ which is embodied not only within its laws but in the ethos of the players and spectators as well.

A few of the Founding Members made presentations with information on the set up of Cricket Romania and the prospects for cricket in Romania over the next 10 to 12 years. The plans and drawings for the prospective grounds and accompanying facilities were also presented, with the intention of establishing a Cricket Centre of Excellence at least for Central and Eastern Europe.

The presentations emphasised the point that cricket was for ‘everyone’ - young, old, male and female and as much as the objective of introducing a Romanian International Team within 10 years, equally, would be the focus on developing a women’s team to compete in the highest level of the game over the same period.

Cricket was being introduced in the schools under a programme branded ‘The Willow Initiative’ and by 2012 a form of national inter-school competition would be established. The highlight of the event was the live demonstration game of Kwik Cricket played by the students of the International British School of Bucharest.

Last but not the least, was the reading at the start of the event of the statement received from Mr. Richard Holdsworth, Regional Development Manager of ICC in Europe where he congratulated the Founding Members of Cricket Romania on their passion and determination to promote cricket and work towards becoming an Affiliate Member of ICC (International Cricket Council). Over the week end of 27th - 28th June 2009, the Bulgarian cricket team visited Bucharest to play in a Twenty/20 three match competition with the Romanian team represented by Transylvania Cricket Club. This was a modification to the scheduled Tri Nation tournament which had to be cancelled when Hungary were unable to come at the last moment.

Having been beaten in 2008 in the East European competition ( in Czech Republic) by Bulgaria in the match for 3rd place in just the last over, Romania were determined to make up for the loss, especially as we were playing on 'home grounds'.

Anticipating this, the Bulgarians came more that well prepared and they had a stronger team than the one the Romanians faced in Prague.

The outcome was inevitable. The Bulgarians were much too good for the Romanians as they had a younger and sprightly team. They held their catches, while we dropped quite a few

Be that as it may …… congratulations to the Bulgarians on their 3 0 win and to the Transylvania Cricket Club for organising the competition and being excellent hosts!
